The Volunteer Coordinator coordinates and organizes the volunteer program in order to accomplish agency goals, which includes recruitment, placement and retention of the volunteer staff of Neighborhood Services Organization.  

The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to serve as an ambassador at large for Neighborhood Services Organization and must demonstrate professional excellence and perform to Neighborhood Services Organizations' standard of quality at all times.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and monitors the daily operations of the volunteer program.
  • Coordinates the recruitment, screening, placement and evaluation of volunteers and student volunteers.
  • Collaborates with social, civic and local organizations to develop partnerships,where appropriate, to utilize volunteers.
  • Implements volunteer training and recognition programs
  • Manages volunteer database, tracks volunteer hours and maintains updated records on all volunteers.
  • Reports to staff on volunteer activities as needed and serves as staff liaison regarding volunteers.
  • Recommends ideas for ongoing volunteer utilization.
  • Coordinates volunteer communications, recognition events and volunteer meetings.
  • Handles and resolves complaints by program volunteers in accordance with grievance procedures as outlined  in the volunteer handbook.
  • Provides support to volunteers to ensure they have appropriate resources to complete tasks/ job assignments.
  • Prepares reports and written correspondence as needed.
  • Assists on Saturdays and some evenings (as needed) to work with large groups of volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned 

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate's degree in related field preferred with at least three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with volunteer coordination is desirable.
  • Experience and knowledge with an at -risk population is desirable.
  • Experience and knowledge of event planning is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
  • English / Spanish Bilingual is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Clearance of background check and drug screen.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, to both internal and external audiences
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Ability to cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi task and meet short deadlines.
  • Sensitivity to working with vulnerable populations
  • Ability to work as cooperative and supportive team member
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office products , including Outlook, Word and Excel,  Internet Explorer, and PowerPoint.
